About this quiz

Every story is only as good as its villain, and everyone has a little villain energy hiding behind their polite smile. Maybe you're the quiet strategist who is three moves ahead, maybe the heartbroken antagonist with a sad piano theme, or maybe you just want to release a glitter cannon in a boardroom. This quiz finds out which one. Ten playful questions โ€” your ideal lair, your villain snack, how you react when someone steals your idea โ€” match you to one of eight original villain archetypes.

The archetypes borrow from centuries of storytelling. There is the Mastermind in the tradition of Arthur Conan Doyle's Professor Moriarty, the Tragic Villain who descends from Mary Shelley's misunderstood creature, the Charming Manipulator with a silver tongue worthy of Shakespeare's Iago, the Chaos Agent from the trickster gods of myth, plus the Corporate Overlord, the Petty Villain, the Theatrical Villain and the Villain With a Point. None of these are about real harm. Think of them as costume shops for your personality: each one exaggerates a real strength, like strategy, charisma, ambition or principle, until it becomes deliciously dramatic.

Your result reveals your villain origin story, your (harmless and slightly ridiculous) evil plan, the fatal weakness the hero will exploit, your ideal henchman, your villain stats and how your dark side behaves off duty in love, at work and with friends. You will also see your villain DNA โ€” the top three archetypes in your mix โ€” and your best allies and arch-nemesis. Answer with your gut. Then send it to the friend you suspect is secretly a Mastermind.

How it works

  3. Share it and compare: every crew needs a Mastermind and a Chaos Agent.

FAQ

Is this a dark or psychological test?

No. It is a lighthearted personality quiz about fictional villain archetypes, not a measure of anything harmful. Every archetype is built on a real strength such as strategy, charm or principle, just turned up for comedy.

How many villain types are there?

Eight: the Mastermind, the Tragic Villain, the Chaos Agent, the Charming Manipulator, the Corporate Overlord, the Petty Villain, the Villain With a Point and the Theatrical Villain. Each has its own detail page.

How long does the villain quiz take?

About two minutes for 10 questions. Your result appears instantly at the end.

Is it free, and is my data saved?

It is free with no sign-up. Your answers are calculated in your browser and never leave your device.

Why did I get a different villain on a retake?

Many people sit close to two or three archetypes. Your villain DNA bars show your runners-up, and changing a single answer can tip the balance.

For entertainment only; not a psychological assessment. All evil plans are fictional and strongly discouraged in real life.
