About this quiz
The Enneagram describes nine personality types arranged around a circle, each organized around a core motivation: the thing you are quietly chasing and the thing you are quietly avoiding. A Type 1 wants to be good and right, a Type 7 wants to stay free and avoid pain, a Type 9 wants peace above almost everything. Two people can behave the same way for completely different reasons, and the Enneagram is interested in the reasons.
This free test uses 36 original statements, four for each type, asked in rotation so no single type is bunched together. Rate how much each statement sounds like you on a five-point scale. Your core type is the one you score highest on. Your wing is the stronger of the two types sitting next to yours on the circle, so a Type 4 can be a 4w3 or a 4w5; when both neighbors tie exactly, you get "balanced wings". You will see your scores for all nine types, not just the winner, because most people recognize themselves in two or three.
The modern Enneagram grew out of teachings by Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo in the 1960s and 70s and was popularized by authors such as Don Riso and Russ Hudson. It is a framework for self-reflection rather than a scientific instrument, and academic psychology relies on models such as the Big Five instead. Treat your result as a mirror, not a verdict.
Each type has its own page covering strengths, blind spots, love, work, both wings and a playful compatibility guide for all nine pairings. Read the type you got, then read the two types that came second. The best way to confirm your type is to ask which core fear feels uncomfortably familiar.
How it works
- Rate each of the 36 statements by how much it sounds like the real, everyday you, not the person you want to be.
- Go with your first instinct; there are no right answers and no type is better than another.
- Get your core type, wing and full 9-type score chart, then explore your type page and compatibility.
FAQ
How accurate is this Enneagram test?
It is a short self-report test, so it is a good starting point rather than a final answer. Results depend on honest answers and on how you feel today. If two types score close together, read both type pages and notice which core motivation fits you best.
What is an Enneagram wing?
Your wing is one of the two types adjacent to yours on the circle, adding a secondary flavor to your core type. A 9 can have an 8 wing or a 1 wing, for example. This test picks the neighbor you scored higher on, and shows "balanced wings" when they tie.
How long does the test take, and is it free?
About five to seven minutes for 36 statements. It is completely free, with no sign-up and no email required.
Are my answers stored or shared?
No. Your answers are scored in your browser and never leave your device. Only your latest result may be saved locally so you can see it again.
Is Enneagram compatibility real?
The compatibility notes are an entertainment interpretation. Enneagram teachers generally stress that no pairing is doomed or guaranteed; two self-aware people of any types can build a great relationship.
Can my Enneagram type change?
Traditional Enneagram teaching says your core type stays the same while your health, stress level and wing expression shift over time. Retaking the test months apart is a fun way to see how you have changed.
For entertainment and self-reflection only; not a clinical or psychological assessment. The Enneagram is not a scientifically validated model, and compatibility notes are playful interpretations. This test is independent and not affiliated with any Enneagram organization.
