What it measures

Neuroticism is the scientific name for how strongly you react to stress, threat and frustration. High scorers feel worry, sadness and irritation more intensely and more often; low scorers, described as emotionally stable, stay calm and bounce back quickly. Because the label sounds harsh, this site calls it emotional sensitivity. It is a normal personality trait, not a diagnosis.

Higher sensitivity has upsides: such people often notice risks early, take problems seriously and understand other peopleโ€™s struggles. Lower sensitivity brings steadiness under pressure, but can make someone slow to notice that something is wrong. Your score can move with life circumstances, and stress-management habits tend to help anyone, whatever their result.

High scorers tend to

  • Feel emotions intensely and quickly
  • Worry about what could go wrong
  • Are deeply affected by criticism
  • Notice moods and tension in a room

Low scorers tend to

  • Stay calm under pressure
  • Recover quickly from setbacks
  • Rarely dwell on worries
  • Can seem unbothered or hard to read

Sounds like you?

Your emotional sensitivity (what psychologists call Neuroticism) is high: you feel things intensely and pick up on risks and moods that others miss. That depth can make you empathetic and alert. The roast: you have drafted a full apology at 2 a.m. for something nobody else even remembers.

Your emotional sensitivity (Neuroticism) is moderate: you get stressed like anyone, but you usually bounce back. Bad days visit; they donโ€™t move in. The roast: you are calm in a real emergency and strangely rattled by a message that just says "Quick call?"

Your emotional sensitivity (Neuroticism) is low, which means your emotional stability is high. You stay steady under pressure and rarely spiral, and people borrow your calm. The roast: you are sometimes so unbothered that friends wonder whether you heard the news at all.
