About this calculator

Your salary is usually a big, abstract number that shows up once or twice a month. This calculator shrinks it down to the smallest unit that still feels real: the second. Enter what you are paid per hour, month or year, add your hours and work days, and a live money meter starts ticking right on the page. Suddenly that ten-minute coffee run has a price tag, and the meeting that could have been an email has a very specific one.

The math is simple and transparent. Hourly pay is multiplied by your weekly hours and 52 weeks to get a yearly figure; monthly pay is multiplied by 12. That yearly amount is divided by the hours you actually work to get your rate per working hour, minute and second. We also show a second, sneakier number: your pay spread across every second of the calendar year, nights and weekends included, which is what you earn "while you sleep".

To make the numbers stick, the result translates your pay into everyday things: how long you need to work for a fancy coffee, a takeout lunch, a pizza, a movie ticket, a new video game or a flagship smartphone. Prices are rough typical prices in each currency, not quotes, so treat them as a vibe check rather than a shopping list.

Everything is pre-tax and ignores vacation, overtime and bonuses, so your real take-home per second will be a bit lower. Use it for fun, for perspective, or to settle the eternal office debate about whether that third bathroom break counts as a raise.

How it works

  1. Enter your pay and choose whether it is per hour, month or year.
  2. Pick your currency and set your weekly hours and work days.
  3. Hit the button and watch the money meter tick, then compare your pay to coffee, pizza and phones.

FAQ

How is salary per second calculated?

Your pay is converted to a yearly amount (hourly x weekly hours x 52, or monthly x 12), then divided by your working hours per year and by 3,600 seconds per hour. A 40-hour week at $55,000 a year works out to about $26.44 an hour, or roughly $0.0073 per second.

Is this before or after tax?

Before tax. The calculator does not know your tax bracket, deductions or local rules, so it shows gross pay. Your take-home per second will be lower.

What does "per second, 24/7" mean?

It spreads your yearly pay over every second of the year (365.25 days x 24 hours), including nights and weekends. It is always smaller than your working-second rate, and it is the fun answer to "how much do I earn while I sleep?"

Are the coffee and phone prices accurate?

They are rounded, approximate typical prices for each currency, chosen to make comparisons easy. Real prices vary a lot by city, shop and model.

Is my salary stored or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and your numbers never leave your device. Your last entry is remembered locally so you can come back to it.

For fun and general perspective only. Figures are pre-tax estimates and are not financial, payroll or tax advice.
